ENGLISH DESCRIPTION:
“Today is a holiday. In the small village church they baptise my baby. I won’t be able to be there, officially: I must stay hidden. ” Thus begins the story of a woman that history has long forgotten: Catherine, the mother of Leonardo da Vinci. Young commoner, seduced by the notary ser Pietro da Vinci, she becomes pregnant with a child that she will not be able to raise she breastfeeds him, but he is taken from her arms to be raised in her paternal house. Her beautiful child will be able to enjoy many more comforts, of course, but he will always remain a bastard: he will not inherit neither titles nor properties and will have to live only on his wits. Even Catherine’s life will not be easy: the accusation of witchcraft, the marriage with a former soldier of fortune, five children to raise, and always the regret for that lost firstborn that she can only see from afar. Leonardo moves to Florence, enters Verrocchio’s workshop, manifests ingenuity and talent beyond all expectations, but finds himself tainted by an accusation of sodomy. Better to leave for a bigger, freer city, full of opportunities, the Milan of the Sforza. Are mother and son doomed to never see each other again? Or will Catherine be able to reunite with Leonardo, crowning the dream of being close to him, which has given light and meaning to her entire life?
